Sixers Game With A Friend

I had a fun night going to the Sixers game with my friend Chris. We got to catch up and enjoy a Sixers win. As with any sporting event I attend, I have to choose between paying attention to the game or socializing. When Eliz and I went to Jane’s softball games, it was a little easier. If Eliz was busy talking to another parent, one of the other parents there would fill me in on what just happened. On this night, Chris and I would be talking and then the crowd would roar. He’d then fill me in as to what just transpired. There is no replacing the energy you feel while at a game. That just doesn’t come through when you watch it on TV. Besides the socializing, that is another element that makes the game fun.

That being said, there wasn’t a way for me to follow the action other than with what Chris was telling me. I’ve reached out to the 76ers to see if they offer any accessibility feature for blind and visually impaired fans who go to games. At the time of this writing, they have not gotten back to me. I will update this post once I hear something.

I don’t know how much our tickets cost, but I’m sure they weren’t cheap. Looking around the web, I’m guessing the face value of our tickets was probably around $100 each. Add another $30 for parking and adds up to a pretty pricey evening. But, it is definitely something different to do and I like doing different things.

Texting with Chris yesterday, he said he is trying to get Flyers tickets so I can compare going to each. As I’ve mentioned before, I use to be a Flyers season ticket holder back in the day. Of course, I could never see the puck, but I was able to follow the action a little bit before I had a trabeculectomy in February 2003. I’ve been to two games since. One in early March 2003. Eliz and I went and I think we only stayed for the first period. I just couldn’t follow the action. On the bright side, it was Jeremy Roenick bobblehead night. The only other game I went to was a preseason game a few years later with my friend Alex. Jacob also went with us.

I wanted take a moment to plug Chris’ insurance company, called Dougherty and Company. They are located in Media, PA and do Home, Life, and Auto insurance. Give Chris a call at (610) 566-8710 or check them out on the web at DCISI.com .
